BACKGROUND:

The wikipedia page for The Raven Cycle Series does an excellent job going over the magic and events of Blue’s world!

PERSONALITY:

Blue was raised by a houseful of psychic feminists in the rural Virginia south, and that probably tells you all you need to know about her as a person. Blue’s mother is a very easy-going and loving person, and as a result Blue didn't have many boundaries growing up. She wasn't spoiled in any sense, but the lack of boundaries led Blue to self regulate and become fairly mature for a teenager.

Blue is, to her great dismay, a deeply sensible person at heart. While would much rather be the kind of person who is spontaneous and takes great risks at the drop of a hat, she's far more likely to be reasonable and sensible in any given situation. However, her sensibility does not lead her to the most boring safe options most of the time. She's less a “you really should not do this dangerous thing” kind of sensible, it's more like “I might as well go with you when you do this dangerous thing, because I know you will do it alone otherwise” kind of sensible.

It’s usually the first thing adults notice about her (after her fashion choices), and so she chafes against it constantly.Because of this chronic sensibility and growing up with a hippie mother who allowed most things to happen within reason, Blue never really had a chance to rebel. It's very frustrating for her, because she prides herself on being separate from the pack. How can you be separate from the pack if anything you do isn't even rebelling? So instead, she acts out through her wardrobe. Wearing unconventionally crocheted clothing and shirts made out of pop cans and ribbon makes her feel little more in control of her image. She feels like it sets her apart from her peers at school. It really is a kind of “I'm not like other girls” mentality, though she deeply identifies as a feminist. She would never admit, but it sometimes she thinks she's a little bit better than those other teenagers.

Like most people who are on the smaller end of the five-foot spectrum, Blue has a pretty short temper. She's not big on physically acting out, but she is a fan of a good verbal evisceration. Sensibility has no power here—when Blue is mad, or frustrated, she lets everyone know it, picking fights over small slights or insults and going beyond the pale at points. On occasion she needs to be saved from herself, be it by someone else stepping in or being made to walk away from the situation.

But apart from her temper and her occasional self importance, Blue is a person capable of deep, deep love. She grew up in a home where she was cared for and nurtured fiercely, and it was a value imparted to her by her aunts, cousins, and mother. Family to Blue does not have to be blood related, and blood family doesn’t necessarily get her love and respect. Her four closest (and really, only) friends quickly fell into the category just weeks after meeting them, and she cares for them as deeply as anyone in her home. Unfortunately, she hasn’t got the whole “romantic love” thing down yet. All her life, she’s been told that if she kisses her true love, he’ll die, and so she has, until 17, stayed away from romance and boys in general. So having recently stumbled into a whole lot of boys and finding herself with a whole lot of feelings, she’s at a big loss. She would much rather deny herself romance or keep it secret than hurt someone else she cares for, and it’s something she’s still learning to navigate.

POWER:

Psychic Battery
This power is Blue’s canon power. She is a essentially a supernatural and psychic power source, and any supernatural creatures or psychics in her close vicinity will find their powers amplified while she is there. Physical contact boosts the amplification effects even more. The effects do not linger after she is no longer present.

Tree Affinity
This power allows blue to have a special affinity for trees of all kinds. She will be able to grow trees from nothing. This process involves a strong focus on what exactly she wants to grow, and placing a hand on the soil near where she intends it to grow. She can accelerate the growth of the tree as far as its natural life span, but this takes a good deal of concentration. Additionally, she is able to grow branches, leaves, fruits,etc. where she touches on a tree, but this also takes a good deal of concentration and time to master.

This power also will allow her to speak to tree and understand their needs (ie, if it needs more water, less, more sun, if there are parasites, etc) and concerns, so she can better care for them or just make conversation.

Note, that though the line between trees and some other plants can get blurry, this power only covers plants that we would traditionally consider trees. With plants that can be either trees or bushes, Blue would only be able to create the tree variety.

Yogurt Witch
Blue has the power to create yogurt out of thin air, whenever she wants. To summon a yogurt, all she has to do is concentrate on the kind of yogurt she wants (brand, flavor, etc.) and it will appear in her hands. If she doesn’t concentrate on any specific type, she gets a generic fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt in a plain white cup.

[The video feed flips on, showing a very short teenager with wild, clipped up hair, looking a little annoyed and confused. Her shirt looks like it’s made of a whole lot of ribbons just sewed together on the top and bottom. There are soda tabs. And beads. It’s...well, it might be cute on some avant garde runway or in a bad Etsy shop.]

I guess everyone introduced themselves, so I’m Blue. Yes, like the color. [She pauses to chew at the corner of her lip while she thinks of more personal trivia.] Uh, I’m about to turn 18 in a few days, it’s my senior year this year, and…..I like trees? And dogs.

[There’s a small noise offscreen, as if it’s prompting her. ]

Oh! Yes. Does anyone know of some really, really good second-hand stores or scrap places? I have no clothes besides these, it’s a big problem.

[What do you mean just go buy some new clothes? What rich losers do that.]
